As CHL permit holders, when we interact with friends and family during the holidays we must be constantly vigilant on how we handle our handguns.
Concealed Carry during the Holidays requires special planning. Getting together with friends or family for holiday entertaining can be a special challenge. First, you already know that alcohol and handguns do not mix. O.R.C. 2923.15 makes it a first degree misdemeanor to carry or use a firearm while under the influence of alcohol. This includes carrying in your own home! While it is great to share a holiday toast with your friends, make sure that your handgun is safely secured away from where you are entertaining. Also remember that if you have young ones over, their natural curiosity is to go explore when they think no one is looking. A handgun left carelessly on a night stand near the bed can lead to tragic results if discovered by a young child. For the ladies carrying in a purse or handbag, remember that when friends or neighbors are carefully admiring your beautiful handbag, they may innocently discover your firearm. And when you drive to that holiday party, remember that O.R.C. 2923.16 makes it a crime to have a loaded handgun in the vehicle while under the influence of alcohol.
On behalf of everyone at OhioCCDS, we wish you a Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to all!
